The Social Action Committee is pleased to sponsor the Riverdale Temple’s Annual

Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1

This event will feature our own Dr. Craig Katz who will speak on Friday night. He will explain the psychological trauma that refugees experience when they must flee the violence and oppression of their homeland.

On Saturday morning, Lois Harr will speak about the Waldo Family Shelter. Lois will describe the conditions refugees left in their native countries, their journey to NYC, and the new conditions that they found here. She will conclude her talk by explaining the current needs of the Waldo Family Shelter.

CRAIG L. KATZ is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Medical Education, and System Design and Global Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City, USA, and the founder and director of Mount Sinai’s Program in Global Mental Health.

LOIS HARR is a former director of campus ministry and social action at Manhattan College. She is currently a member of NETWORK, the Catholic Social Justice lobby, Riverdale Huddle, a group of local neighborhood activists, and the coordinator of Friends of Waldo Family Shelter.

Afterwards, we will sponsor a communal lunch where congregants will have an opportunity to meet Lois, and speak with her on an informal basis.
